FAQ

How do I start using the luminaire, and will it work immediately?

Before starting the luminaire for the first time, the battery needs to be fully charged with the USB-C-cable. Charge the battery indoors. Remove the USB-C-cover. Plug the USB-C-cable into the USB-C charging socket and connect with the power supply. Remove the USB-C-cable when the green indicator lamp lights up. After charging, put the USB-C-cover back over the socket again to warrant protection class IP65.

How is the luminaire charged?

USB-C-charging function: Charge the battery indoors. Remove the USB-C-cover. Plug the USB-C-cable into the USB-C charging socket and connect with the power supply. Remove the USB-C-cable when the green indicator lamp lights up. After charging, put the USB-C-cover back over the socket again to warrant protection class IP65.

Solar charging function: put the luminaire outdoors in a place with direct sunshine and expose the luminaire to constantly direct sunlight to charge the luminaire battery. Make sure that the solar panel is free of foliage, leaves, branches, dirt and debris to obtain the best possible charging results.

Does the battery of the solar panel charge even on cloudy days with little solar harvest, or even in autumn/winter months?

The solar panel is also charged on cloudy days and also in autumn/winter months and then still reaches up to 25% of full power.

Is the luminaire charged when it is delivered?

On delivery, the battery is charged to about 70%. Before using the luminaire for the first time, it is therefore advisable to charge the battery completely with the USB-C-cable. Charge the battery indoors. Remove the USB-C-cover. Plug the USB-C-cable into the USB-C-charging socket and connect with the power supply. Remove the USB-C-cable when the green indicator lamp lights up. After charging, put the USB-C-cover back over the socket again to warrant protection class IP65.

How long does it take for the battery to be fully charged?

USB-C-charging function: it takes the battery about 7 hours to be fully charged.

Solar charging function: it takes the solar panel battery about 3-4 sunny days each with 10 hours of constant direct sunshine to be fully charged.

How long is the usage time of the luminaire once the battery is fully charged?

The operating time depends on the dimming level and whether the luminaire is operated in manual or automatic mode.

In manual mode, the luminaire can be operated for max. 32 hours at the lowest dimming level.

In automatic mode, the luminaire can be operated with a fully charged battery and at the lowest dimming level for about 6 evenings - with automatic switch-off after 5 hours.

Can the luminaire stay outside during the winter?

The luminaire can stay outside even during the winter months.

How do I choose the best place to put the luminairel?

Put the luminaire outdoors in a place with direct sunshine (facing south) where it is exposed to continuous direct sunlight. Functions may be restricted during the autumn/winter when the sun is no longer so high in the sky with possibly longer periods of shade, depending on the region.

The solar panel must be kept permanently free of dirt and debris, foliage, leaves and branches, as otherwise the charging results can be considerably impaired.

Why won’t the solar panel charge properly?

The solar panel must be absolutely free of dirt and debris, foliage, leaves and branches to obtain the best possible charging results.

Why won’t the luminaire switch on?

The battery capacity is insufficient. To charge the battery, use the USB-C-cable, or expose the solar panel to direct sunshine (facing south) with continuous, direct sunlight.

In autumn/winter months the function of the solar panel may be restricted when the sun is no longer so high in the sky with possibly longer periods of shade, depending on the region.

The solar panel must be kept permanently free of dirt and debris, foliage, leaves and branches, as otherwise the charging results can be considerably impaired.

How frequently can the battery be charged?

The battery can be charged about 800-1000 times, depending on charging and usage patterns.

How can I extend the service life of the battery?

You can extend the service life of the battery with short to medium-long loading cycles. On the other hand, avoid charging 0-100%.

Use the charge cable contained in the scope of supply to charge the luminaire.

Can the solar panel battery be replaced?

In case of failure, the battery can be replaced by IP44.DE. Please contact your retailer.

How do I clean the luminaire and solar panel?

To make sure your luminaires don't lose their looks and bring you lasting pleasure, we need a little help from you: please clean your IP44.DE luminaires regularly. Please also remember that different materials and environments need different kinds of care.

Clean all components regularly to remove dirt and debris. Do not use a pressure washer.

A gentle solvent-free household cleaning agent is all you need to care for your luminaire. Then polish it off with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use scouring agents, steel wool, scouring pads, acid or alkaline cleaning agents as these would damage the surface.

Caring & Useful information

Our luminaires have been designed to do their job for many years. But we need a little help from you to make sure that they don't lose their looks as the years go by and that they will continue to bring you pleasure for a long time! Please clean your IP44.DE luminaires regularly. And please also remember that every material and every environment needs a different kind of care.

Application areas

All environments differ. The same goes for the material properties of our luminaires. Please consult us if you intend to use our products near the coast or in the vicinity of a swimming pool. Salt or chlorine particles in the air would make life very difficult for our luminaires.

Caring for aluminium die-casting lacquered

The luminaires have a finish that offers high chemical and mechanical resistance. As with every surface, the colour shade of our surfaces can also be changed when exposed to UV radiation (e.g. sunlight). Exposure to UV light can cause changes to the colour pigments embedded in the lacquer. A gentle, solvent-free household cleaner is all that's needed to care for the luminaire, which should then be rubbed off with a dry, soft cloth. Abrasive cleaners, steel wool, scouring pads, acids or alkali cleaning agents should not be used as these would damage the surface.
